MAVO 3D
SLAM-based LiDAR
MAVO 3D is a mobile 3D LiDAR scanning solution. It relies on a proprietary CORE with a SLAM-based algorithm (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) to calculate the devices position while you are moving.
MAVO 3D processes and optimizes raw capture data input and let’s you create high quality 3D models in open industry standard formats.
When to use mobile SLAM-based solutions?
For as-built captures, where capturing speed and accessibility to a 3D scanner matter.
SLAM scanners such as MAVO 3D are build for easy capturing. The scanning process is efficient and can be done even when people are in the room.
What cons?
Due to how data is captured in SLAM-based solutions, compared to Static TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanners), it is likely to introduce drifts. Drifts happen if the algorithm doesn’t catch up with your movement. For example rotating or accelerating speed while scanning. The longer the scan session is, the bigger these drifts get, and the more likely it is to accumulate new ones.
Can I combine the benefits of a TLS with a SLAM scanner?
Hybrid workflows are the new “Go-to standard”.
TLS data capture is time-consuming, but can be used as a geometric source of truth. When positioned in key intersections, they produce highly accurate 3D point clouds which can then be “filled in” with fast mobile SLAM data from MAVO 3D.
Combining accuracy + speed
In post-processing workflows, these two data sources are then registered for the final 3D point cloud output.
